Help From the E-Team
WCAS Staff

On April 11, ten students of the Hopewell Valley Central High School's Envirothon Team with co-advisors Jeff Neumann and Sara Sherwin participated in a day of community service at the Featherbed Lane Bird Banding Station. With four Washington Crossing Audubon group leaders, Lou Beck, Herb Lord, Joe Pylka and Hannah Suthers, the Team divided into four work groups and trimmed by-paths and cleaned net lanes in preparation for the 2005 banding season.

We also visited John Heilferty's vernal pool project on site where some 2500 wood frogs and over 600 spotted salamanders had been individually tallied in March, incoming to breed and lay eggs. The interaction between the students and leader/naturalist was lively and delightful. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated!

The Envirothon Team participates in local, state and national competitions on environmental issues including natural history. We wish them the best in their endeavors.
