WCAS NEEDS You!!
Barbara T. Ross

WCAS has an immediate need for committee members and committee chairpersons! Our chairpersons shown below are strong and capable, but the committees need your active participation. This year, Washington Crossing Audubon wants to attract members to become new co-chairs and committee members to strengthen all our activities including Programs, Newsletter, Website, Birdathon, Development, Publicity, Communications, Outreach, Conservation, Education, Field trips and Membership. Part of the excitement will be your involvement!

We need your creative ideas! Your involvement will enhance our current activity. The more hands to share the workload, the more active WCAS in all areas. Will you help us?

Internet access and email capability are required. Committee size, attendance, number of meetings, methods of communication, and assignments are the responsibility of the respective committee chairperson. Below is a list; each of you is encouraged to volunteer for one (or even two) today!

PROGRAMS

Duties: solicit suggestions, evaluate, and line up commitments and information on eight superb speakers each year for WCAS program meetings; arrange occasional special programs. Longtime programs chair Jeff Hall retired and moved to western PA a year ago. Need a chairperson and 1-2 committee members.

NEWSLETTER/WEBSITE

Duties: edit and lay out 4 or 5 issues of The Crossing per year, email ready-to-print copy to the printer, print mailing labels and prepare the newsletters for bulk mailing. Convert articles to web pages. Tom Cosmas is now doing this alone and he really needs help. We want to improve the design and content of both newsletter and website and develop a list of email-only recipients. Writing, editorial, and/or design skills are highly desirable. Long-time newsletter co-chair Herb Lord moved to South Carolina two years ago. Need a co-chair and 3-4 committee members; plus additional volunteers to assist with mailings.

DEVELOPMENT

Duties: solicit funds from corporate and other sources; conduct annual Birdathon; organize fund-raising events (tables outside supermarkets; parties; special trips). Need a chairperson and 3-4 committee members. WCAS hasn't had a development chair since Peter Johnson left four years ago; the corporate funding he (and Mark Witmer before him) solicited supported Audubon Adventures.

MEMBERSHIP

Duties: keep the membership lists, welcome new members, and attract members. Think of ways to encourage diversity, better membership participation, and better communication. Need 2-3 committee members to assist WCAS treasurer Tom Lederer who has recently assumed this chairmanship.

EDUCATION

Duties: provide Audubon Adventures to area inner city fourth graders; subsidize programs for families at Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association; initiate beginning birder courses; and help develop an exciting new venture into programming for kids! Education chair Joe Schmeltz retired last year. At least 4 committee members are needed to assist new board member and education chair, Tyler Christensen, to revitalize and expand this effort. Please direct all offers to volunteer, suggestions, and requests for additional information to Brad Merritt, President, balmerritt@aol.com or Barbara Ross, Secretary, albatross8@verizon.net
